Love Aflame

I was thinking today about an incident that happened a few years ago. We lived in Wisconsin at the time and our house was in the middle of quite a few very old, very large trees. Maple, Oak, and… oh who am I kidding? Big old trees, I have no idea what kind. I do know that those trees grew a lot of leaves and in the Fall, much to our chagrin, they would drop their leaves. Everywhere. I bet you didn’t think you were going to get such an in-depth science lesson here today, did you? As I was saying, leaves. Leaves! We were covered in leaves every Fall. So of course we had no choice but to...

Am I A Magnet?

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. James 1:19,20 This has been happening quite often lately. I’ll be spending time with the Lord, reading His Word and asking Him the meaning of the text I’ve just read, when suddenly I begin to see a familiar verse in a new light. Then to confirm this new understanding, within a few days I will inevitably cross paths with another Christian voicing the same revelation. In my Bible the above text was...

Incomparably Great Power

…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 My excitement was irrepressible. I hadn’t been this giddy in a very long time and never EVER about vacuuming. Last week we finally purchased a new vacuum. I spent the following day on my knees cleaning the tiniest of crevices, on my toes reaching the highest ceiling corners and all the while sporting the absolute brightest smile. Vacuuming has never been something I long to do. The old, broken-down vacuum we had...

Love Austin

Today, some of my church family and I served the city of Austin in a very tangible way. Some of us were sent out to various places like Town Lake Trail, a cemetery, and an elementary school to clean and do some outside work. This service day just happened to coincide with Austin’s Clean Sweep day which means there were all sorts of opportunities to show the love of Christ as we worked side-by-side with other Austinites who don’t know Jesus. What a blessing today was for each of us who pitched in to help. My 15 year-old daughter and I along with a friend and her daughters all...

Baby Steps

My sister is healing beautifully from her brain surgery. The doctor told her on her three week checkup that the typical recovery time from such a surgery is 6 months. He said that this length of recovery is second only to open heart surgery. Then he said that her progress was amazing and that her recovery was as far along as most of his patients are at three months post-surgery. I know that God has everything to do with this. He made me and her both a promise that she would be fine and He is faithful. But I can’t help but wonder if there is anything else that may be contributing to this...

Is it Friday Already?

It has been Spring break week here at the Stoenescu house. Although, it wasn’t very hot or sunny this week which proves my original thought that it was far too early for Spring break was correct. In my opinion anyway. Today though, today is a paradigm of perfection. Yesterday, not so much. Yesterday was “get the septic tank sucked out” day and it proved to be headache worthy. One burned out pump, one broken floater, one dead sensor, switch and hose later we’re out almost eleven hundred dollars and tired of thinking about all things excrement. So it’s probably...
