There is a humbleness or humility that pervades our society today that is not biblical. It is a false humility that the enemy deceives us into thinking is exactly what God desires of us. Satan would have us believe that we are to have a low opinion of ourselves and our God-given talents and abilities. He rejoices when we continually try to convince ourselves of our pitiful position in life, no matter what we actually believe.

In this way, the successful businessman may think being humble is considering himself to be inadequate and the talented dancer might believe denying her dancing ability in public is displaying humility. Not only are they trying to believe what is not true; they are spending valuable time reflecting only on themselves.

One definition of Biblical humility I found stated, “not the making of one’s self small when he is really great, but thinking little of one’s self, because this is in a sense the right estimate for any human being, however great.” So we aren’t supposed to be trying to think little of ourselves when down deep we are really quite impressed with ourselves, that’s false humility. The above definition is a good one, but I believe there is much more to it than that.

True Biblical humbleness is something quite unique. Biblical humbleness is first understanding we are nothing without Christ. He is our next breath, our very life. If there is any good in us it is only because of Christ. Once we recognize this truth, we can finally see ourselves as no more valuable than any other human on this earth. But hang in there a second because now we’re getting to the good stuff, the easily palatable truths. We have established that we are the ones in need of God, not the other way around. But guess what, He wants us. He may not need us, but He loves us and wants us. The Lord God Almighty loves us beyond words and His greatest desire is to walk with us, or I should say that He desires that we walk with Him. He wants this for not only you, but for me and for everyone on this earth. He desires to have a relationship with every single person He created. Having become the humble people that we are, we want this for all who He created also. We rejoice when others are willing. Having no bias one way or the other, we also rejoice when our Creator God uses others in mighty ways. We rejoice when Godly talents are used to glorify the God we so love, whether it be by ourselves, a loved one, or a brother or sister we have not yet come to know. Just let God be glorified!

Biblical humbleness is when God allows us to be completely stripped of all of our disgusting self-love and clothed in His unselfish, unbiased love for all people. It is true humility when one displays it with no thought or effort on his part. Biblical humility brings glory to God.

I marvel at God’s unmerited favor toward us each time I read this by C.S. Lewis, “He [God] really loves [those] He has created and always gives back to them with His right hand what He has taken away with His left.”

Heavenly Father,
Your goodness and love towards us is simply amazing. Your word tells us that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what You have prepared for those who love You and I believe this truth more every day. Your ways are so far above our ways. You take from us the self-love what will so hinder our walk with you and restore to us love that is not selfish but kind, patient and selfless. Thank you Lord for your love that not only covers me but also fills me.
In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen

I have always loved good music and when I became a Christian I felt convicted to leave the music of the past and listen only to music that edified me. I believed that music should encourage me in the faith. I don’t know if every single Christian is supposed to conform to this belief and I’m certainly not saying they should. I only know that for me it was right. It was good. It was beneficial.

Some of my favorite Christian music has always been Praise and Worship. Years ago I always had it playing in the house as I went about my laundering, scrubbing, vacuuming day. Like a B-12 shot it gave me energy plus a desire to excel at the mundane tasks at hand. It was almost as if accomplishing the task became a form of worship too.

Somehow I got away from that habit. Things that filled my day required more silence I suppose. I began homeschooling our children and as they grew in age their work required more concentration on both of our parts. Even my vehicle hindered me in that the CD player has been broken for years so my ears were at the mercy of the local Christian station and their music preferences.

“When God’s people begin to praise and worship Him using the Biblical methods He gives, the Power of His presence comes among His people in an even greater measure.” – Graham Truscott

Lately I’ve had such a craving for the knowledge of the presence and power of God in my life that I’ve found myself analyzing every area of my life. I need to know if there is anything hindering me from living in the power of His presence. It was in analyzing that I realized that my worshiping habits had changed. Of course there are other things I believe I need to correct also but the lack of worshiping in my daily chores bothers me.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

In everything I do I should be worshiping. Everything I do could be worship.

As a brand new, baby Christian I thought I could only truly worship on Sunday mornings. I thought of worship as music, singing and lifting my hands in a sacrifice of praise. Then I learned to worship in my home with music and through chores. I wish I had continued to grow on this path. I think I would have figured out much sooner that stepping out in faith and obedience is the sacrifice Paul speaks of in Romans.

I believe that God is showing me a different definition of worship lately; one I would have learned years ago if I hadn’t gotten sidetracked by other “important” things.

Obedience to God has always been an important issue for me and in raising my children. Obedience for the sake of living in obedience to God not as a form of worship. Seeing it as a way to worship makes obedience to His call all the more important and necessary. Serving Him becomes so much less about me and all about Him. It shows me how excelling in His will for my life is not about ambition but all about attributing to Him all that He is worth.

Currently God is calling our family to something new and a little scary but in light of His sacrifice we are choosing to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. It’s all about becoming true worshippers.

And I think we’re ready to worship.

I’m not sure if I ever told you this but if so you’re just going to have to hear it again.

My kids are THE best.

God was so good to Julian and me when He chose these three to be ours.

For the last two months we’ve been staying with friends while we attempted to make the state of Texas our new home. Our kids are intimately acquainted with all that a cross-country move entails. They know that it takes a while before you feel like where you now live is home. They know the feeling of shifting allegiances from your old school, sports teams, and burger joint to the new. This moving thing, they’ve done it before. A few times, in fact. And I have to say, they’ve done it well.

This move though was the first time they had to wait months before they even began to settle in. We had no idea exactly where we would end up. Our search for a house took us as far as even a few hours from where we are staying. Hours would have meant a different life than the one they were already beginning to get used to here. They didn’t complain though. Instead we heard from them, “Just go where God leads you.”

They’ve accomplished something else they’ve never done before. For the last two months they’ve managed to live, nearly complaint-free, in a 12 x 14 foot room. All.Three.Of.Them! Think about that for a minute or twelve. Niko is eighteen, Kyle is 16, and Chloe is 12 and they have been nothing but patient and hopeful as they lived together in that one small room. They actually get along better today than they did when this adventure began oh so many weeks ago.

The moral of this story is the same one I’ve told countless times before. Pulling the rug out from underneath our children is an invaluable tool for the parent who will dare to use it.

I’ve seen this happen each time we’ve moved.

They grown, people. They grow up a bit and they grow closer too.

And that my friends is just one of things we as parents are supposed to be helping them do.
